Kate Strakosch is a nourishment coach who believes in the inner and outer connection of wellness and radiance. She is the owner and founder of Sunshine Kate’s wellness center in New Jersey.

Kate has a degree in whole-foods based nutrition from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. Eventually she weaved her passions together and has been leading wellness and sensory awakening retreats both domestically in the US and internationally since 2015.

Episode Highlights with Kate Strakosch

  • “Yoni” is a Sanskrit word that means “sacred opening.” It refers to the female genitalia: the vulva, vagina, and reproductive organs as well as the emotional/spiritual connection to this system.

  • Yoni is the sacral center/chakra, and is connected to the root chakra.

  • For the female, there are sacred journeys associated with the beginning of menses, through young adulthood and childbearing years as well as the post-menopausal years.

  • Breathwork drops the nervous system into the “space” where the body is ready to heal.

  • Yoni steaming is an ancient practice which can be traced back to ancient China. Dried herbs are heated in hot water to create steam.  One squats above the pot of hot water and the oils of the herbs seep into the sensitive skin of the yoni. Contraindicated for women with an IUD in place, or pregnant (unless she has already been practicing yoni steaming).  Yoni steaming softens and warms the cervix, and also affects digestive health.  It is also effective for menstrual problems among other conditions.

  • Herbs are curated on an individual basis.

  • Do not use essential oils in yoni steaming!

  • The cervix is connected to the vagus nerve.  It is possible to stimulate a vagus nerve response which activates the parasympathetic nervous system.

  • Yoni steaming can help with past trauma, infertility, healthy menses, etc.

  • Common herbs to use for yoni steaming:

  • Nettle

  • Red clover

  • Calendula

  • Rose

  • Motherwort

  • Pre- and post-menses, and ovulation are great times for yoni steaming (unless she is focusing on conceiving.)

  • The cervix and throat center are connected. Therefore, steaming can assist a woman who is learning to speak her truth via the throat chakra, indirectly through the cervix.

  • Calendula suppositories can be effective by inserting before sleep to support a woman through pelvic/ovary pain and inflammation.

  • When searching for a practitioner to use yoni steaming, ensure that they are not using plastic for the “throne.”  You can also do it yourself using a crock pot, blankets, and yoga blocks.

  • Steaming can also be used for men - it is supportive for prostrate health, and healing sexual trauma.

  • Consider steaming around the new moon and full moon cycles, both to set intentions, and release anything that no longer serves you.

  • Steaming can release stuck emotions.
