A DIY image of how to make a tick repellant

🌿 Why Tick Awareness Matters This Season

Tick activity is expected to be particularly high this year, with experts warning that 2026 may be worse than recent seasons. In some regions, tick populations are projected to increase by 15–20%, driven by milder winters, rising humidity, and expanding habitats.

At the same time, ticks are emerging earlier, staying active longer, and spreading into new areas, increasing the likelihood of exposure—even in places that historically saw fewer cases.

Adding to the concern, tiny nymph-stage ticks—often no larger than a poppy seed—become most active in late spring and early summer. These are harder to detect and more likely to transmit infection, making prevention especially important right now

🌿 Tick Repelling: Essential Oil Blend 🌿

This thoughtfully crafted blend of plant oils helps discourage ticks from attaching and lingering on the body—supporting a more natural approach to outdoor protection.

While essential oils can be helpful, they work best when reapplied regularly and used as part of a broader prevention strategy.

Base Options

These oils may be carried in: • Olive oil (6 oz) • Witch hazel (6 oz) • Or beeswax (for a balm)

Equal Parts Blend

• 20 drops Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus / winterianus)

• 20 drops Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus)

• 20 drops Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica)

• 20 drops Rose Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)

• 20 drops Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)

Why These Work

Citronella + Thyme → shown to be one of the most effective combinations against ticks

Cedarwood → demonstrated toxicity to certain tick species and strong deterrent effects

Lemongrass & Citronella → can provide several hours of repellency in lab studies

Geranium & Thyme oils → among the most promising plant-based repellents in multiple formulations

How to Use

Apply to: • Ankles• Wrists• Behind knees• Clothing edges & socks

Shake well before use

Final Note

Natural blends can be supportive but short-acting, so frequent reapplication is key—and combining with other protective measures (like clothing and awareness of terrain) offers the best defense
