A Wake-Up Call in Pet Health and Medical Care
Today, statistics on pet health and medical care are the worst they've ever been. Dogs are living seven years shorter than they did just 20 years ago, and cancer rates in dogs have soared to an alarming 1:1.65 (nearly 100%). Cats, too, are suffering, with cancer rates estimated at 1:3—though this is likely underreported. Clearly, what we are doing in modern medicine and lifestyle is not working.
As Albert Einstein said, “We can’t solve problems with the same mindset that created them.”
As sobering as these statistics are, this may also be one of the most exciting times to be alive—and to be a pet parent. People are beginning to question the status quo. They are no longer willing to accept the standard of care without reflection. Instead, they are seeking health, longevity, and deeper understanding—for themselves and for their animals. A growing community is embracing new perspectives and taking different actions, and as a result, they are seeing different outcomes. Old belief systems are beginning to give way to ones that are more aligned with vitality and long-term wellness.
Rethinking the Root Cause
For too long, illness and cancer have been attributed primarily to external factors—bad genes, parasites, fungi, toxins. In 1971, Richard Nixon declared a “war on cancer” with the signing of the National Cancer Act. Yet framing this as a war suggests an enemy to destroy, when the reality is far more nuanced.
Cancer is not a foreign invader. It arises from our own cells—cells that have lost their ability to communicate and function in harmony with the body as a whole. These cells adapt in an effort to survive within an environment that no longer supports healthy function.
At the core of this issue is the terrain—the internal environment in which cells live, communicate, and self-regulate. When this terrain becomes imbalanced, it creates the conditions that allow abnormal cells to grow and proliferate. The body’s innate systems of regulation and repair—designed to manage free radicals and remove damaged cells—can no longer function as intended.
To change this trajectory, we must shift our focus. By understanding and supporting the body’s biology—its terrain and innate intelligence—we create the conditions for restoration, resilience, and true healing.
The "Pill for an Ill" Medical Model
Most people are familiar with Western medicine—it’s what you encounter every time you take your pet to a traditional veterinary practice. The pet has a symptom, and they get a medication. I refer to it as a “pill for an ill” medical practice. It’s what we’re accustomed to when we visit our own doctors: You present a symptom, and you’re given a pill. This approach might work well the first, second, or even third time, but at some point, you have to wonder why the problem keeps reoccurring (or gets worse).
In Eastern medicine, however, we not only address the symptoms to keep our patients comfortable, but we go further and seek to identify and resolve the root cause of the dis-ease. I specify dis-ease because I don't believe there is actually disease, I believe there is imbalance in the body resulting in dis ease.
Dis-ease results from 4 main things:
1. Deficiencies of essential nutrients. An essential nutrient is that nutrient that the body cannot manufacture in sufficient quantities on its own. These essential nutrients must be suppled through the diet. Unfortunately, in our modern world, our diet is deficient because the farming practices have not been sustainable, they are not regenerative and result in the food growing in the soil being nutrient depleted.
2. Toxicities. Since World War II, 1942, there have been over 100,000 synthetic toxins developed and released into our food and water systems.
For most individuals, there is a combination of deficiencies and toxicities occurring together
3. Mitochondrial dysfunction. The mitochondria are the power houses that live symbiotically in our cells and our fur babies cells, producing the energy our bodies need to function and also providing communication with the microbiome (the organisms that live in and on us) telling our DNA what do express or turn off. When do mitochondria become unhealthy, it triggers, a cascade of biological system failures.
4. Trapped emotions. All dis-ease has trapped emotions. The Chinese over 2000 years ago associated specific emotions expressed when there is imbalance in certain organs. As an example, an unbalance in the liver is associated with the emotion of anger. The kidney and bladder are associated with fear. The lungs are associate with grief.
Taking a “holistic approach” to health and longevity entails looking at ALL aspects, body, mind and spirit, identifying the root cause of dis-ease and providing the body with the support it needs to allow the innate intelligence of the body to correct, restoring the ability to thrive.
Creating the Conditions for True Healing
Once the deficiencies and toxicities have been identified and resolved, there are many safe and effective modalities that can be used to return balance to a system in dis-ease. Alternative options include Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture, chiropractic, herbs, essential oils, energy therapies, intrinsic energy, magnetic resonance, pulsed electromagnetic frequencies (PEMF), ozone therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, laser therapy, homeopathy, low level light therapy, photodynamic therapy and much more. All of these modalities are aimed at treating the root cause of dis-ease and restoring balance to the body.
Western medicine certainly offers amazing tools in diagnostics and therapy, but it is not the answer to everything. That’s why I combine the best of both worlds: Western medicine, with its advanced diagnostic tools, plus 2,000 years of ancient wisdom, along with “Bio Hacking”, resulting in an affordable, safe, effective, integrated, and sustainable health approach.
